Social networks develop “deep pocket inspections”

social networking Debates are heating up concerning the plans for controversial new laws regarding increased Internet surveillance all over the world, and not only in the US government. Some examples of what has been proposed include mandating that social networking sites and online chat-providers build so-called back doors for law enforcement, instituting what’s known as “deep packet inspection” technology, which would allow for monitoring of data. There has been negative reactions from online privacy hawks regarding the potentially damaging implications of such laws. Rebecca Bowe of the Electronic Frontier Foundation speaks out on the broader implications of the matter.
